Filet Mignon is on the Pelican Club's new take out menu

Five of the city's favorite fine dining restaurants are offering an extraordinary selection of meals for pickup and/or delivery:   Galatoire's, Bayona, GW Fins, Italian Barrel and the Pelican Club. (Update, April 3:  GW Fins, Bayona and Pelican Club have closed for now).

Bonus?  There's no traffic to make pick-up a hassle!  We've got the details to make ordering easy.

- by Kim Ranjbar

For our collective health, to “flatten the curve,” we're all stuck inside the house until further notice, but that doesn't mean we can't make the best of it! Since we can't spend the evening drinking and dining at the finest restaurants in the French Quarter, why not create a gorgeous gastronomic experience at home? Bust out the candles, iron the wrinkles from your brightest table linens, set the table with the “special” china and order take-out from some of the best kitchens in the country.

Galatoire's
209 Bourbon Street
website

While you may not have the historic, black and white tiled floor, mirrored walls or lively Friday afternoon confabs at your elbow, you can still get a taste of Galatoire's in the comfort of your own home. Tune into WWOZ or cue up your favorite local jazz band on your preferred listening device and sit down to a family meal of Oysters Rockefeller, Turtle Soup, Redfish Courtbouillon with Louisiana oysters and jumbo lump crab, and finish off with Bread Pudding with Banana Praline Sauce for dessert!

Galatoire's is offering a feast for four like the one mentioned above, but the menu changes daily. Call (504) 525-2021 or email [email protected] to place your order. Same day orders must be placed by 2:00pm and pick-up time is between 4:00pm and 7:00pm. Visit Galatoire's online to check out the current menu for your next family meal.

Bayona

Bayona's signature Smoked Duck and BJ&J Sandwich

Although it's difficult to re-invent the gorgeous courtyard at Susan Spicer's flagship restaurant Bayona, you can still make do in your own backyard, just be sure to break out the tea lights and let the stars be your décor.

From 11:00am to 5:00pm, Bayona is offering curbside from their carriageway, packing up dishes like Cream of Asparagus Soup, Crispy Smoked Quail Salad, their famous Smoked Duck PB&J Sandwich, Mushroom Liver Rabbit Roulade and Coconut Panna Cotta. Visit Bayona on Facebook to see the current menu for the week and call their reservation line at (504) 525-4455 to order. What could be simpler?

GW Fins
808 Bienville Street
website

Picture

Over on Bienville Street, GW Fins is staying in the game, offering 3-course dinners Monday through Saturday for only $30 + tax with $6 sides available a la carte. One recent menu featured a crispy pork belly appetizer, Louisiana drum wrapped in chicken cracklin' and Salty Malty Ice Cream Pie. If you're seeking a wine to pair with that stellar meal, GW Fins is also offering all of their wines at 50% off!

To get in on this bounty, call (504) 581-3467 and place your order as early as possible and pick up your dinner curbside between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. Visit GW Fins on Facebook to see check out their most recent menu.

Italian Barrel
1240 Decatur Street
website

Oft overlooked, but never forgotten (especially after you've dined there!), The Italian Barrel way over on the corner of Barracks and Decatur streets is still in full swing offering their full menu for both take-out and delivery through UberEats. Feast on Prince Edward Isle mussels sauteed in white wine and garlic, porcini and truffle ravioli draped in a creamy white wine sauce, linguine tossed with pesto and sauteed jumbo shrimp or veal piccata in butter, capers and shallots.

Owner and chef Samantha Castagnetti is also slinging some mammoth Italian sandwiches, that would easily feed two, like the Verona – Italian cooked ham, fresh mozzarella and artichoke sauce served on your choice of ciabatta or focaccia bread.  Visit The Italian Barrel online and place your order through UberEats or call them at (504) 569-0798.

The Pelican Club
312 Exchange Place
website

Picture
This week, the Pelican Club was offering Fried Chicken Family Box as one of their menu offerings.

Over on Exchange Place, a cozy pedestrian-only alley between Bienville and Conti, the fine dining restaurant The Pelican Club is now offering both delivery and take out. Chef/owner Richard Hughes is lavishing our palates with family-sized offerings of vegan carrot ginger soup, Thai fish and shrimp, filet mignon with a mushroom red wine sauce and buttery mashed potatoes, vegetable lasagna and white chocolate bread pudding.

The Pelican Club is also offering a large menu of discounted wines; sparkling, whites and reds. Call (504) 523-1504 between 10:00am and 4:00pm Tuesday through Sunday for delivery or curbside pick-up at 615 Bienville Street.

Though she was born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kim Ranjbar felt New Orleans calling her home as soon as she hit puberty. A graduate of granola U (a.k.a. Sonoma State University), Kim took her passion for the written word and dragged it over 2000 miles to flourish in the city she loves.  After more than seventeen years as a transplant — surviving hurricanes, levee failures, oil spills, boil water advisories and hipster invasions — Kim hopes to eventually earn the status of local and be welcomed into the fold.  Feel free to check out her blog at http://sucktheheads.com/ or contact her at [email protected].
